The 1000 Rep Challenge

By Julian Marquez, former UFC middleweight · 5 minute read · Updated October 2026

One thousand reps in a month. Every rep of every exercise counts. Finish it and you earn a rank. Keep going and you climb the leaderboard against everyone else doing the same thing. That's the whole challenge.

I built the 1000 Rep Club because most people don't quit training because it's hard. They quit because nobody is counting. When you know your reps are banked and your name is on a board, you show up on the days you would have skipped.

How it works

You log your sets in the app, or on the leaderboard page in your browser. Every rep you log goes into your monthly total. Hit 1,000 reps before the month ends and you've completed the challenge. On the 1st, everyone's monthly total resets and the race starts again, but your lifetime reps keep climbing forever.

Reps are scored on how heavy the weight is compared to your own bodyweight, so a 150 pound athlete and a 250 pound athlete compete fairly. Bodyweight work counts too. Push ups, pull ups, squats, lunges, sit ups, all of it. There is no exercise that doesn't count.

The ranks

Your Club Score decides your rank for the month. Bronze is where everyone starts once they hit the goal. Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Legend are above it. The ranks are the same for everyone, and you compete in both the overall board and your own division: beginner, intermediate, or advanced.

How to pace 1,000 reps in a month

A thousand sounds like a lot until you break it down. Thirty days means 34 reps a day. Four training days a week means about 60 reps per session. That's three exercises for four sets of five. Most people who lift are already doing more than that and just never counted.

My advice is to front load it. Bank 300 reps in the first week while you're motivated. Then you only need about 25 a day to finish, and you'll have room for a sick day or a travel week without falling behind.

Three rules that make it stick

1. Log the set before you leave the rack

Not after the workout, not that night. The moment the set is done, it goes in the app. Reps you don't log don't exist.

2. Don't chase junk reps

Fifty reps of a 10 pound curl will bank reps but they won't change your body. Train the way you normally train, with real weight and good form, and count what you already do. The challenge should make your training more consistent, not sloppier.

3. Share your rank

When you earn a rank, the app makes a card you can post. Tag me. The people who post their rank are the ones who finish the next month too, because now their friends are watching.

What to eat around it

A thousand reps a month is real work, and your recovery is what turns that work into results. The two things I would never skip are protein after training and a solid daily foundation. If you want the exact products I use, these are them.

Nothing on this list is required to do the challenge. Food, sleep, and showing up matter more than any supplement. These are what I take and what I'd point a friend to.

Questions people ask

Is the 1000 Rep Club free?

Yes. Logging reps and competing on the leaderboard is free in the app and on the website. The paid part of the app is the coaching, where it writes your training and nutrition program for you. You don't need it to do the challenge.

Do bodyweight exercises count toward 1,000 reps?

Yes. Every rep of every exercise counts, including push ups, pull ups, squats, lunges, and sit ups. Reps are scored on the load compared to your bodyweight, so bodyweight work scores lower per rep than heavy lifting, but it all adds up to your 1,000.

What happens if I don't hit 1,000 reps in a month?

Nothing bad. Your monthly total resets on the 1st like everyone else's, and your lifetime reps and lifetime score keep everything you logged. You just start the next month fresh.

How do I get on the leaderboard?

Create a free account in the app or on the leaderboard page, pick a display name, and log your sets. You appear on the board as soon as you've banked reps this month.

Can I do the 1000 rep challenge if I'm a beginner?

Yes. You compete in the beginner division against other beginners, and 34 reps a day is a very reachable target. Start with bodyweight work and light weights with good form.
